A stationary gantry crane is suitable for a permanent working area. Mobile models can serve several locations, but require a level surface, defined travel paths and appropriate wheels or drives. Aluminium gantry cranes have a lower self-weight and are useful where the crane must be moved frequently or transported for assembly work.
Engineering data includes capacity, clear span, overall height, lifting height and the selected hoist. Doorways, floor conditions, indoor or outdoor use and possible side loads must also be clarified. SHT can recommend a standard model or develop a custom gantry crane. A drawing of the area, load dimensions and details of the required movement provide the best basis for technical clarification.
A mobile gantry crane requires a level, load-bearing travel surface and sufficient clearance around wheels and supports. The operating instructions determine whether movement with a suspended load is permitted. Locking devices, travel direction and the controlled guidance of the load should be included in the working procedure, especially in shared workshop or logistics areas.
Gantry cranes for industry require suitable clearances, floor conditions and a defined method of positioning and locking.
